New Resource Alert: NA Research Review Pamphlet
5/26/2020
What do scientific studies reveal about the accessibility and effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for people seeking support for addiction recovery?
In April 2020, Marc Galanter (New York University School of Medicine), Keith Humphreys (Stanford University), John Kelly (Harvard Medical School/Recovery Research Institute), and I (Chestnut Health Systems) released a 56-page report addressing this question. The report reviewed 10 early (1951-1989) references/descriptions of NA as a recovery support resource, 69 published studies on NA, and 158 published studies of "12-Step programs" that included NA members within the study samples.
The potential readership of that report is limited due to its length and technical nature. As a follow-up, the authors are releasing a pamphlet summarizing the findings of this review for people seeking recovery support resources.
Those who wish may freely repost, reprint, and distribute this new resource. To review or download the pamphlet, click HERE.
For those interested in summaries of other research related to addiction recovery, we encourage exploration of the Recovery Research Institute website.
Acknowledgment: The authors would like to thank Christopher Rattan, MPH, Health Communications Coordinator, at the Recovery Research Institute for his assistance in preparing the pamphlet for distribution.
