Chestnut Helps Those in Need Find Employment
Faith Granberry had a hard time finding a job on her own. After joining the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program at Chestnut Health Systems and working with an employment specialist, she was able to find the right opportunity and start a new chapter.
Faith had worked at Taco Bell for two years but left to focus on college. However, she quickly discovered the difficulty of balancing tuition and living expenses without steady income... “Bills were a struggle for me,” she said.
One of her biggest challenges was simply getting noticed. “You apply to so many jobs and sometimes no one even calls you.”
Already receiving behavioral health services at Chestnut, Faith was referred to the IPS program.
Through IPS, Faith connected with Stephanie Everhart, Vocational Service Coordinator, who encouraged her to broaden her job search to include opportunities in the St. Louis area. Together, they refreshed her resume and began applying. The effort paid off—Faith landed a position at the St. Louis Aquarium.
“Expanding my search into St. Louis was something I never thought about before. She helped make my resume look nicer and find the job I’m working at right now. For that, I’m really grateful,” she said.
Faith has now been at the aquarium for more than a year and has worked her way up to a management role. “I wanted to find something long-term and full-time, and I did,” she said. “I'm able to have a big responsibility at a young age, and my job has a lot of good benefits. I get holiday pay, bonuses, and it’s a pretty good company to work with because I have the chance to work in different areas and keep growing.”
“With guidance and support during your job search, finding a job that fits your needs and goals is achievable,” said Stephanie. “Together you and your employment specialist can make sure you find a job that meets your requirements for travel, interest, and work hours.
To others who may be in a similar position, Faith encourages perseverance. “When I first started working with IPS, I was worried because people kept rejecting me. But eventually, you find that one job that works out, and it can change your life for good. I highly recommend the program. It’s good to have support to help you get a job. You just have to give it a chance.”
Faith’s story is just one example of how IPS is helping Chestnut clients achieve stability and meaningful employment. At Chestnut, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work toward their goals and build a better future.
If you or someone you know is 18 or older, lives in Madison or St. Clair County, has a mental health diagnosis, and receives Medicaid, you may qualify for Chestnut’s IPS program.
