Our Culture

At Chestnut Health Systems, our culture is built on a foundation of compassion, inclusivity, and excellence. Since 1973, we have been dedicated to empowering individuals and communities through comprehensive health and human services.

We believe that recovery, wellness, and human potential are possible for everyone. Our team of diverse professionals works collaboratively to provide integrated services in substance use prevention and treatment, mental health care, primary care, housing and supportive services, and applied research, training, and consultation—all grounded in evidence-based practices.

At Chestnut, everyone is welcome. We are committed to providing equitable, high-quality care to all, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability to pay, or any other protected status. We recognize that health is deeply interconnected—mind, body, and community—and strive to deliver care in the least restrictive, most supportive environment possible.

Our legacy of innovation, service, and hope drives us forward. As we continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of those we serve, we remain guided by our values. Together, we build healthier communities where individuals and families can thrive.

"One of the many rewards of my career at Chestnut is seeing and knowing that I have made a difference in the life of a young person."

Anonymous Community Health Worker

"I've learned how to be a better clinician and believe it or not a better mother.

Handling a multitude of different clients who have substance use/mental health conditions has allowed me to strengthen my ability to handle different personalities and behaviors with compassion and overall more effectively.
"

Anonymous Clinician

"I have been working for Chestnut for more than 20 years and the relationships we develop with clients in housing enriches our lives just as much as it enriches theirs. In essence, we are not just providing direct services, but the tenants feel that we are family to them."

Anonymous Housing Staff

"Making a difference is not specific only to the clinical work we do but how we treat our clients and visitors with respect, kindness and grace."

Dietra Kulicke, Vice President of Integrated Care

"Chestnut Family Health Center focuses on my work's quality rather than quantity. They allow me to provide evidence-based, holistic care within a system that supports both patients and providers."

Dr. Kevin Garner, Medical Director, Chestnut Family Health Center

"My entire career at Chestnut has been on the front line with our clients. Being able to see and hear about the differences we make in our clients' lives makes me very proud and thankful to be a part of Chestnut."

Jennifer Pastoriza, Central Access Manager

"It's rewarding to be part of a team that works together to innovate and make a difference in the lives of so many people."

Kelli Wright, Scientific Grants Manager

"When I work with the tenants here, I think about my family: This could be my sister, this could be my brother. So, I don't care how you look; I don't care what color your skin is; I don’t care what your religion is; I'm going to work as hard for you as I can."
