Dr. Patrick F. Hibbard is a Research Scientist I at Chestnut Health Systems’ Lighthouse Institute—Eugene. Dr. Hibbard leads and assists with several NIH-funded projects focused on policies and programs focused on helping those with substance use issues, especially those that overlap with the criminal legal system. He employs a variety of methodologies to study these areas and advocates for the inclusion of people with lived experience throughout the research enterprise. His interest in these topics stems from personal lived experience with both the US criminal legal system and recovery from substance use disorder.
